Select members of the DC skate squad journeyed to Houston, Texas last weekend to take part in the Texas Skate Jam, held at Houston’s South Side Skatepark. Ryan Gallant, Devine Calloway, Greg Myers, and a soon-to-be-announced new team member skated in the demo, which is also a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization that makes the wishes of kids suffering from life-threatening diseases come true. The trials and tribulations of Greg Myers: Greg flew out from San Diego after school on Friday night, caught a bad cold, and spent Saturday and Sunday skating while his cold got more severe, with flu-like symptoms. He then flew back to San Diego late Sunday night in order to make it to school on Monday morning.Ryan and Devine, plus the mystery guest, stayed on in Houston to film, skate and shoot photos. The team is preparing to move on to Dallas for the weekend before returning to Houston. The most recent report from the front lines involves a five-cop-car nighttime bust during a late-night Houston filming/photo mission. There were no tickets written or arrests made, but the men in blue told DC photographer Mike Blabac to get a real job.“ Said Mike: „Texas cops are great!“ Stay tuned for more stories from the front. Rob Dyrdek’s now got a truck big enough to match his larger-than-life personality. You can read all about his new UAV–Urban Assault Vehicle–in the „Blackout“ article in The Skateboard Mag’s newest issue. The UAV is „Dyrdek’s version of the ultimate skate truck.“ The heavily modified Yukon Denali has 23-inch-rims, a custom DC grill, and a stealth-black paint and tint job. But those are just the obvious customizations, because the UAV is kitted out with the ultimate practical skateboarding applications, including shelves for boards and shoes, a generator for night shooting, filming lights, and more. The next time you’re throwing your board into the tattered trunk of your friend’s Civic, or searching under the seat for an Allen wrench or skate key, Dyrdek’s car modifications will all make sense. Read all about the UAV in the latest issue of The Skateboard Mag, at skate shops now.“
