Press Release:
(Irvine, Calif.) — Maloof Money Cup presented by Vans (maloofmoneycup.com) today announced the 2011 U.S. host cities for the world’s greatest skateboarding event: Queens, New York, Orange County, Calif. and Washington D.C. The three U.S. events plus the first international Maloof Money Cup in Kimberley, South Africa this September will offer the largest prize purse in skateboarding history with well over $2 million up for grabs.
The skating population has grown tremendously in Washington D.C. and right now it lacks the number of skate parks needed to support this growth,“ said Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Money Cup and owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. „Our intent is to build a skate park for the community like we did in New York City. We’ve been in talks with a number of cities to host Maloof Money Cup and figured what better place to expand in 2011 than our nation’s capital.“
The Maloof Money Cup will return to New York to the skate park it built last year in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, June 4-5 for the first stop of the 2011 series. The Washington D.C. contest will take place Labor Day weekend. The final U.S. stop will be in Orange County, Calif. on a proposed new Vans skate park that is scheduled to begin construction this summer in Huntington Beach.
„When we started the Maloof Money Cup, we set out to raise the bar for contest prize purses, and we did that with the largest purse ever seen in skateboarding. Since that first event, we’ve been gratified to see other contests follow suit and raise their purses. We will continue to raise the bar for skateboarding prize money as we bring the Maloof Money Cup to cities around the country and the world,“ said Maloof.
The Maloof Money Cup World Championships in Kimberley, South Africa Sept. 30-Oct 2 will feature both street and vert championships with both the street park and the vert ramp left permanently for the community.
„We are excited to bring more world class skate parks to communities around the world this year and we look forward to building several more new skate parks in host cities next year, as we continue to grow and expand internationally,“ said Maloof.
