Skateistan is looking for a motivated individual to join our team as an Operations Intern beginning May 2014 at our newest project site in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. The internship will provide hands-on experience in a variety of areas of Skateistan’s daily operations at the project level. We’re looking for a well-rounded individual who enjoys challenges, takes initiative, and isn’t afraid to get dirty. This is for a five-month unpaid placement at our project site with the potential for longer-term involvement. Skateistan will cover all costs associated with this internship including flights, room and board, visa fees, and transport.
Qualifications:
o Minimum Education: 2-year degree – Bachelor Degree preferred
o Excellent Communicator
o Native-level English speaker, with outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
o Professionalism
o Planning and Organizing – Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor work plans
o Construction background – any experience in ramp building, carpentry, metal work, electric, plumbing, masonry, or other trades
o Project management experience
o Transport or logistic operations/management experience
o Budgeting and cash flow management experience
o Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
o Managerial experience
o Ability to work both independently and with a team
o Proactive with excellent interpersonal skills
o Strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects at a given time
Desired Skills:
o Skateboarding background
o Working/volunteering/studying overseas, preferably in a developing country
o Non-profit experience
o Public relations experience
o Media skills
o Photography
o Filming/Video editing
o Adobe Photoshop, Indesign
o Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
o Graphic design skills
o Basic IT troubleshooting skills
o Teaching experience; work with children
o Interested in potential long-term position with Skateistan
