As the US TV broadcaster CNN reports in this article, Nike is withdrawing bit by bit from skateshops and sports stores in the USA.

One would like to rely on direct online sales. It is not known whether such plans are also in the drawer for Europe. Since trends often come across to Europe with a slight delay, shopkeepers should pay close attention to such reports.

In the future, people in the USA would like to be able to sell their own products directly to consumers through the Nike webshop.

In order to successfully enter the skateboard scene, Nike SB shoes were sold almost exclusively in skate shops. Now that Nike are accepted in the scene, the strategy  „Support your Local Skateshop“ is changed. For example, CNN reports on store owner Ed Shaen, who owns a store in Bellmawr, New Jersey.

For 37 years he was able to offer his customers Nike, until today. Nike canceled the shop account:

I have the letter hanging on the wall. Right next to the trophy [Nike] gave me for being a great dealer in 1992 …
My loyalty to Nike didn’t mean anything …
More than half of the products Shaen sells in his independent shop are Nike products. The loss of Nike, along with the corona crisis, will likely force Ed to close his business forever.
According to Nike CFO Matthew Friend, such shop accounts have been reduced by 30% since 2017. By selling directly, the company can make twice as much profit as before.
